"Endeavor Again" is a song recorded by American vocalizer Aaliyah, released on March 21, 2000, through Blackground Records and Virgin Records, as the pb single for the soundtrack to the 2000 film Romeo Must Die, and was later included on international pressings of the singer's third studio cocky-titled album (2001). It was written by Static Major and Timothy Mosley, and produced by Timbaland. The song features an intro in which Timbaland pays homage to Eric B. & Rakim by rapping the duo's opening poetry from "I Know Y'all Got Soul".

The song was met with positive reviews from music critics and enjoyed commercial success. In the United States, it topped the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first unmarried to attain number one based solely on airplay. In Canada and Europe, "Try Again" peaked within the top five on eight music charts, including those of Germany, the Netherlands, and the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland. It too found success in Oceania, entering the superlative ten in Australia and the elevation 20 in New Zealand. A music video directed by Wayne Isham was made for the song.

Background and release [edit]

In 1999, Aaliyah landed her first movie role in Romeo Must Die, released March 22, 2000. A loose accommodation of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Aaliyah starred contrary martial creative person Jet Li, playing a couple who fall in love among their warring families. When it came to the production of the song he had a mixed response to it, although he thought the synth sample and snare alternating lived up to expectations for the vocal he ultimately felt that the synth sample becomes grating as the song progresses.[16]

"Effort Again" debuted on the United states of america Billboard Hot 100 on the week of March 18, 2000, at number fifty-viii,[17] reaching number one on the calendar week of June 17, 2000.[17] It too peaked at number one on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, number three on the Mainstream Acme twoscore nautical chart and number four on the Hot R&B Singles & Tracks chart.[17] On the Year-Stop chart for 2000, the song reached number twelve.[18]

In the United Kingdom, "Attempt Again" debuted and peaked at number five on the U.k. Singles Chart on July 16, 2000―for the week catastrophe July 22, 2000―while staying in the peak seventy-five of the chart for twelve weeks. The vocal has sold over 209,000 copies and it is Aaliyah's all-time selling single in that region.[19] [20]

"Attempt Again" also achieved commercial success elsewhere in Europe, peaking within the top 5 on the charts in Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland.[21] In Federal republic of germany, the song peaked at number v on the German language Singles Chart.[22]

In Australia, the song reached number 8 on the ARIA Singles Chart.[23] It became the land'due south fifty-first acknowledged song of 2000.[24]

For the week ending on May viii, 2000, the video was the number one most played video on BET.[30] On MTV the video was the third well-nigh played video on the network during the calendar week ending on May 22, 2000.[31]

"Try Again" was the first song ever to attain number one on the Billboard Hot 100 based solely on the strength of its radio airplay.[32] "Try Again" was nominated for a Grammy Award for All-time Female person R&B Song Performance at the 43rd Grammy Awards,[33] while its music video won two MTV Video Music Awards for Best Female Video and Best Video from a Film.[34] The song was besides nominated on the seventh annual Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards in the category of Song of the Year; withal, Aaliyah lost to gospel artist Yolanda Adams.[35]

In 2013 Dr. Danny from The Mindy Project taught the choreography of the video to Mindy in an episode of the series.[48] [49]

On August 21, 2019, the Madame Tussauds Las Vegas revealed a wax figure of Aaliyah. The lifesize figure was modelled on Aaliyah's appearance in the "Effort Again" video. It was unveiled by Rashad Haughton to an invited audience.[50] [51] [52]

2021 rerelease [edit]

In August 2021, information technology was reported that Aaliyah's recorded work for Blackground (since rebranded equally Blackground Records 2.0) would be re-released on concrete, digital, and, for the beginning fourth dimension ever, streaming services in a deal between the characterization and Empire Distribution[53] [54] [55] [56] [57] [58] "Endeavor Once more" and the parent album Romeo Must Die: The Album was rereleased September three, 2021.
